Rebuilding Project

MDOT will be reconstructing a 2-mile stretch of road in Traverse City from Division Street to Garfield. This project will take course from March until November, 2024 and may impact your travels and time in Traverse City.

Below is some important traffic information to prepare you for your time Up North.

 


 

When do detours start?

March 10, 2024

 

What roads are being reconstructed?

A 2-mile section of US-31/M-37/M-72 (Grandview Parkway/Front Street)

 

What is the purpose of this project?

This project will result in operational enhancements at the intersections of Division Street, Hall Street, Front Street, and Peninsula Drive, drainage improvements, Americans with Disabilities Act review and upgrades, repairs to the Murchie Bridge over the Boardman River, and new signs and pavement markings. 

 

What are the traffic impacts?

The stretch of US-31 on East Bay where Tamarack Lodge is located will not be reconstructed. 

However, guests may experience detouring, lane closures, or one-directional only traffic when going West towards Downtown Traverse City.

 

How will the project be segmented?

To make the project more manageable, MDOT is dividing it into two main segments:

 

Segment 1: Garfield Avenue to Front Street - March - July 2024.

Segment 2: Front Street to Division Street - July - November 2024.

 

Within each segment, there are multiple phases.
