Farmland 5K

Held on Traverse City’s only dedicated cross country running course, Excel Physical Therapy announces the inaugural Farmland 5K European Style XC Challenge to “honor the sport of cross
country running, and to celebrate year round running in northern Michigan."

Race Director Lisa Taylor created this event to introduce runners of all ages to the venue of a cross country style race,which has it’s origins in Europe, where “hares and hounds” foot races were held from farm to farm. The December date was chosen to offer a “naturally tough, true northern Michigan” event. The December running event completes the competitive running calendar in northern Michigan, with a local race offered every month of the year.

The off-road 3.1 mile footrace race will begin at 12:00 noon and is held on mowed grass pathways surrounding the 150 acres of centennial farm property of local farmer Lewie Rasho, who has been donating and maintaining the dedicated course southeast of Traverse City since 2001. Runners are welcome to wear shoes with spikes in them, known as “racing spikes.”
