Elk Rapids Farmers Market every Friday outside the Chamber building. Elk Rapids, on East Grand Traverse Bay and Elk Lake, is about 15 miles northeast of Traverse City on US-31. Products grown locally on family farms and feature: Fresh vegetables, fresh fruits & berries, eggs, sweet corn, baked goods, honey products, tomatoes, fresh cut flowers, nursery plants and flowers, sauces and jams, and much more!

Stargazing- Public Viewing

Members of the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society (GTAS) and NMC Astronomy Club host Public Viewing Nights at Rogers Observatory in Traverse City.

Annual Inuit Art Sale at the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City

 Included in this year's sale are 150 newly purchased carvings from the Baffin Island and eastern Arctic region in prices ranging from $50 to $3,000.

A selection of prints from throughout the Arctic is available and the 2011 Cape Dorset calendar has just arrived. The store also features a fine selection of Inuit related books, jewelry, note cards and t-shirts.

There is no admission charge to view the annual sale. Inuit Art can be viewed and purchased at www.dennosmuseum.org.

Women's Wellness Cruise

Relax and revitalize in an environment of fun and friendship as we ply the sparkling waters of northern Lake Michigan aboard the 114' schooner Manitou. Led by our professional facilitators, we will focus on mind, body and spirit through yoga, meditation, massage, nutrition and discussion. You will be able to shape your experience to match your needs and wishes.

Join us aboard Manitou for a unique adventure back in time. You will discover the beauty of northern lake Michigan from the deck of this majestic sailing vessel while enjoying a level of relaxation rarely experienced in today's frenzied world.

Leland Heritage Celebration and Exhibitions

 Leland Heritage Celebration includes “Windows Past, Present and Future," Art Exhibition at the Old Art Building.

In Fishtown, peruse a wooden boat show, vintage car exhibition and special displays.

Leland is beautifully situated on M-22 between Lake Michigan and Lake Leelanau.

Michigan Schooner Festival in Traverse City

 Schooner tours and sailing throughout the weekend, daily demonstrations and reenactments, pancakes with pirates breakfast, maritime music throughout the weekend. Daily children’s activities, food and fun for all ages.

The Michigan Schooner Festival

The Michigan Schooner Festival is scheduled September 10-12 on West Bay in Traverse City at Open Space Park and Clinch Park Marina (located near the intersection of Union Street and Grandview Parkway). The festival will feature a number of Great Lakes Tall Ships. On Friday, there will be a Grand Arrival Event featuring the participating ships followed by deck tours at Clinch Park Marina. Saturday events include: food, entertainment including "Song of the Lakes", a sailing and special progressive dinner and wine-tasting aboard the ships. Sunday starts with a "Pancakes with Pirates" breakfast in Open Space Park with more fun to follow.

A total of six schooners will be on hand for the festival. These include the 350-member Maritime Heritage Alliance's three ships - Madeline, Welcome and Champion -- as well as three tall ships from Bay City, Milwaukee and Suttons Bay. The Alliance's three ships will be docked for tours; the others will sail the Bay.

Mike McIntosh Memorial Truck & Car Show

Location: NMC Automotive Technology Building

 The annual show gives owners the opportunity to display, and public to view, classic cars, 4x4s, dragsters, sports cars, modified late models, motorcycles, trucks and more. Admission is free to the public. There is a $10 entry fee per vehicle. (Event rain date is Sept. 18)

40th Annual Mackinac Island Eight Mile Run & Walk
Date: Sep 11, 2010
Time: September 11, 2010 from 9:30am to 1pm
Location: Mackinac Island

 The course follows the perimeter of Mackinac Island in a clock-wise direction. The first mile of the race will travel past beautiful architecture from the Colonial to Victorian era, the boat harbor and a myriad of shops and hotels in downtown Mackinac Island. Once through town, the route follows the shoreline of the Straits of Mackinac featuring breathtaking views of the Mackinac Bridge, neighboring islands and historic rock formations, finishing at waters edge on the lawn of Mission Point. This course is fast and flat but the scenery is so beautiful, you may just decide to relax and enjoy! The Finish Line is located along the shores in the park out front of Mission Point Resort.

Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament

Time: September 11, 2010 at 3pm to September 12, 2010 at 6pm
Location: Center Ice Arena

 The NHL Prospect Tournament consists of top prospects from eight NHL teams: Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, Atlanta Thrashers, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers.

Teams are divided into two divisions for a round robin tournament that determines placement for the final "Championship" game.

$8 per person, per day (4 games played each day)
